CPUEU (Cape Peninsula University Employees Union) is a trade union registered with the Department of Labour in South Africa. It has recognition status at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology to conduct union activities and participate in organisational structures on behalf of employees.

The bargaining unit the union caters for includes all but the senior executive levels of university employees - from directors to cleaners, lecturers to drivers, deans to contractors. CPUEU is also one of the few trade unions that have no political affiliations.

As there is a Agency Shop agreement in place at CPUT, joining CPUEU is as affordable as not being a member - the deductions are almost identical. Joining provides several protections and benefits and the process is easy.

Unions like CPUEU help workers come together, demand a better deal from their employers, and raise standards for all employees. Unions are the reason employees all enjoy paid holiday, maternity leave, and lunch breaks. Yes, these were not rights at some point and unions had to fight for them.

CPUEU offers its members free labour legal advice if they need it, training and learning opportunities in leadership as union representatives, and members have even been offered discounts and special offers from time to time.
